Important tax scam notice
The Internal Revenue Service is warning consumers of fake IRS emails and phone calls from scammers to lure victims into giving up their personal and financial information. The IRS will not initiate contact via email or phone.
What should you do?
If you receive an email-Do not reply, open, forward or provide any of your personal or financial information. To report the email, forward it to, firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you receive a phone call-Ask for the employees badge number and a call back number. To report the scam, call the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 800-366-4484.
If you think you may owe federal taxes, call the IRS directly at 800-829-1040.
